P+S Technik has introduced the Hexamo Mount, a mounting system that makes Leitz Hektor prime lenses compatible with Arri Alexa cameras. The system consists of a replacement camera mount and a dedicated rear conversion for each Hektor lens, allowing the lenses to achieve the required flange depth for use on the Alexa platform.
The compatibility issue has always been mechanical. Hektor lenses were designed around mirrorless camera mounts with short flange focal distances, leaving no room for a conventional PL or LPL adapter. As a result, the lenses have remained limited to mirrorless camera systems despite interest from cinematographers working with Alexa cameras.
Rather than relying on an adapter, Hexamo replaces the factory camera mount with a proprietary low-profile assembly while each Hektor lens receives a dedicated three-piece rear interface. The combined system maintains infinity focus and retains compatibility with the Alexa’s internal filter system.
According to P+S Technik, the mount uses a large locking ring to provide a rigid connection between the camera and lens, reducing movement under the load of wireless FIZ motors and other lens accessories. The design is intended for complete camera and lens packages rather than occasional lens swaps.
For productions interested in the Hektor series, Hexamo provides access to a lens family that has previously been limited to mirrorless platforms. The lenses are known for lower contrast, gentle focus transitions, and controlled flare characteristics while retaining the mechanics expected of modern cinema lenses.
Hexamo is not a universal mount conversion. Both the camera and each lens require dedicated hardware, making the system most applicable to rental houses, owner-operators, and productions committed to a complete Hektor package.
I’ve written before about the long-term tradeoffs of designing cinema lenses around increasingly short flange focal distances. While those mounts offer greater optical flexibility, they also reduce compatibility with camera systems built around longer flange standards. At some point, there simply isn’t enough physical space for a conventional adapter without compromising infinity focus.
The Hexamo system reinforces that point. Adapting the Hektor series to the Alexa platform has become significantly more complex as a direct result of the lenses’ mirrorless-first design. Rather than relying on a conventional mount adapter, P+S Technik developed a dedicated mechanical conversion for both the camera and the lenses to achieve the required flange depth. As more cinema lenses are designed around shorter mirrorless mounts, this type of solution may become less of an exception and more of a necessity.
P+S Technik has not announced pricing for the Hexamo system. Availability is currently handled directly through P+S Technik and CBM on a quotation basis.
