Venus Optics—or as most of us know them, Laowa—has announced the upcoming global launch of its latest cine lens, the Laowa Ranger 16-30mm T2.9, scheduled for October 22, 2024. This new addition to Laowa’s Ranger Full Frame series offers cinematographers a lightweight, wide-angle option designed for professional use in nature documentaries, automotive shoots, and tight-space environments.
The lens will be available in two versions: a standard model with an aluminum body, weighing 799g, and a Ranger Lite version, which uses magnesium alloy to reduce the weight to 738g. This makes the Lite version particularly appealing for filmmakers seeking a more portable setup for handheld or gimbal-based shooting.

Where the 16-30 Shines
The Ranger 16-30mm T2.9 is designed for versatility while maintaining compactness, making it ideal for handheld shooting, gimbal setups, or FPV drones. Despite its small size, the lens offers high optical performance, featuring minimal focus-breathing, parfocal design, and low distortion. Additionally, its excellent color rendition and high contrast make it a strong contender for use with full-frame digital cinema cameras.
Completing the FF Ranger Lineup

The 16-30mm joins Laowa’s Ranger Full Frame series, which includes the 28-75mm and 75-180mm lenses. All three lenses in the series come in both standard and Lite versions, offering filmmakers a choice between the rugged aluminum body of the standard model and the lighter magnesium alloy body of the Lite version. Together, this series provides an extensive focal range while maintaining portability and high performance.
