Here’s a quick one for ya.
Veydra just began shipping the 12mm Mini Prime which completes the full set. I’ve had some time to play with it and I have to say it’s impressive considering it’s wide angle nature and the fact that it’s coming out of China. Like I said in previous posts with the other Veydra Mini Primes, these are probably the only Chinese lenses that I enjoy using. But how does it stack up to a few other options? Here’s a quick comparison including the Veydra 12mm, the Voigtlander 10.5mm, the Rokinon 10mm, and the Rokinon 12mm. Not a perfect apples to apples, but a valid comparison nonetheless. Click the image below for full res. This is a center crop from each lens set at T2.1. I’ll have a more in-depth look comparing other features such as mechanical, optical, and build quality.
That Rokinon 10mm stands out pretty nicely to my eye.
Keep in mind that these are center crops. Things get much more interesting when we look at the edge of the frame.
why does it say Nokton 17.5mm?
Typo on my part. I usually do the graphics for these posts around 2am. …or between diaper changes 😉
I´m curious you are not adding the SLR Magic 10mm/T2.1 to the field – great cine lense in my opinion and i guess in the same category as the Veydra and the Nokton regarding to the optical performance.
I considered it. I had played with an SLR Magic a while ago and was really unimpressed – especially in the corners. I didn’t have one on-hand for this test either. I may do a more in-depth look and include the SLR Magic.
