Something New Is Cooke-ing…

Cooke is keeping up with the trend by adding large format anamorphic lenses to its esteemed lineup.
After enthusiastic reception for the Cooke S7/i’s, this is certainly the right step forward.
First focal lengths to come will be 40mm, 50mm, 75mm, and 100mm, followed by 32mm, 135mm, and 180mm – all T2.3 with 110mm fronts.
The Anamorphic /i Full Frame Plus range will premier at IBC 2018 featuring the 50mm. The other focal lengths will shuffle out over the next 12 months. Of course, each lens will cover Full Frame / Vista Vision. What makes them even more interesting? A 1.8 squeeze. Cooke believes there is too much wasted space and lost pixels with a 2x squeeze, and a 1.6 squeeze doesn’t give users the desired bokeh and flare consistent with the anamorphic character. Therefore, they arrived at a 1.8 squeeze, which keeps the classic “Cooke Look” in tact. What do you think about the merging of two trends – anamorphic and large format? Is this a dream come true or too much style in for one set of lenses?
