DZOFILM continues to expand its ecosystem of cinema tools with the introduction of two new accessories designed to improve flexibility across modern camera systems: the Marlin 1.4x Expander and the second-generation Octopus II PL-to-mirrorless adapter.
Built for filmmakers working across multiple formats and mounts, both accessories aim to simplify workflows while extending the life and versatility of your existing cinema lenses.
Octopus II: A Smarter Approach to PL Adaptation
The original Octopus adapter earned a reputation for its rugged construction and dependable performance, but there was no getting around one of its biggest drawbacks: weight.
While its hefty feel inspired confidence, the adapter was noticeably heavier than many competing options. For operators building lightweight handheld, gimbal, or travel-focused rigs, that extra weight was always a consideration.

The new Octopus II addresses that concern directly. Depending on the mount configuration, DZOFILM has reduced weight by up to 49%, bringing the adapter down to as little as 190g. It’s still not the lightest mount, but it is a significant weight-loss that now allows for it to be competitive with the rest of the market.
Beyond the weight savings, the redesigned adapter features more internal clearance, improving compatibility with a broader range of lenses, including DZOFILM’s own Arles, Arcana, Vespid, Catta, Pictor, and Gnosis series.
The updated design also includes a detachable 1/4″-20 support foot to help shift load away from the camera’s native mount. Combined with a redesigned grip for faster lens changes, the Octopus II feels refined precisely for real-world productions.
Marlin 1.4x Expander: Giving Super35 Lenses a Full-Frame Future
As full-frame mirrorless consumer and professional cameras are market standard, many filmmakers wanting to use classic cinema lenses must look for ways to adapt S35 lens onto larger format sensors.
The Marlin 1.4x Expander offers a practical solution by increasing the image circle of the lens while extending focal length by 1.4x with less than one stop of light loss. This allows S35 lenses to cover full-frame sensors without severe vignetting, opening new possibilities for filmmakers who want to continue using their favorite glass on larger-format cameras.
One of the most useful features is its integrated back focus adjustment system, allowing users to fine-tune flange depth without removing the lens or reaching for shims. It’s a practical addition that simplifies setup and helps keep lenses performing as intended.

DZOFILM factory presets the flange focal distance to maintain accurate infinity focus right out of the box. It’s great having on fly adjustments like this for when you are on the field. However, proper back focus remains critical for achieving optimal lens performance so it shouldn’t be relied upon every time. We still recommend sending your lenses in for calibration alongside having this functionality.
