A Third Fujinon Premista Zoom

A Third Fujinon Premista Zoom

Fujinon has finally announced the latest addition to their Large Format Cine Zoom lineup: the Fujinon Premista 19-45mm T2.9. Fuji’s newest cine zoom is a short, lightweight wide-angle 19-45mm T2.9 zoom lens. Just like the 28-100mm T2.9 and the 80-250mm T2.9-3.5, the Premista 19-45mm produces images with natural and beautiful bokeh, outstanding high resolution, accurate color rendition, and controllable flare with minimal ghosting for capturing high dynamic range. Fujinon once again did an excellent job at ensuring minimal distortion throughout the entire zoom range allowing for less work in post-production phases and more creativity in the field.

Canon’s New Zoom Now Shipping

Canon’s New Zoom Now Shipping

I haven’t been impressed with a 10x zoom since the original Angenieux 25-250mm HR. There are have been several attempts at reviving that focal length; the Fujinon 25-300mm, Arri Alura 45-250mm, even an Angenieux 25-250mm Optimo Style zoom. None of these lenses were bad, they just weren’t particularly good. So I didn’t want to get my hopes up when Canon announced their 25-250mm Cine-Servo. But now that I’ve had a chance to play with it and put it through its paces…

Cine Gear Expo 2020 Postponed

Cine Gear Expo 2020 Postponed

It’s obvious at this point that Coronavirus has swept any social gatherings such as NAB or Cine Gear under the Social Distancing rug. NAB waited until the last minute to cancel their show which left a lot of exhibitors in an extremely difficult position. Cine Gear Expo took a more aggressive approach and announced they were pushing their show date well enough in advance for exhibitors to coordinate properly.

RIP Veydra: 2014-2019

RIP Veydra: 2014-2019

Veydra was a startup lens company with a solid idea that met its demise far too soon. As is the case with any ambitious idea with a lot of potential, there were curves and pitfalls that couldn’t be avoided. I had a front row seat to the entire adventure as a design consultant, a vendor, and a customer. The following is that account from my perspective.

Is Canon Announcing a New Cine Lens?

Is Canon Announcing a New Cine Lens?

With the cancellation of this year’s NAB Show, Canon was left without their expected platform to announce new cinema-related products. Back on April 6th, Canon shared a simple image to invite fans and press to a live stream event. The teaser image only had the words “Imaging Unleashed”, which is rather vague, and really could be anything. The only thing that leads me to believe the announcement is lens related is the background – iris blades.
