Zeiss pulled the veil of their long anticipated update to the Compact Prime line which will officially be called the CP.3 and CP.3 xD. The new line will consist of FF35 primes ranging from 15mm to 135mm in a lightweight, compact cinema housing. The new lenses will feature high performance optics at affordable prices with a couple of features not yet seen in the Sub-$5K market. Let’s take a look at the details of Zeiss’ new cinema primes.

NAB 2016 Preview

NAB 2016 Preview

NAB has officially begun. It looks like just about every lens manufacturer couldn’t keep it in their pants and dropped their news ahead of the actual show, with a few exceptions. This post is a general roundup up the news announced as of Sunday night before the show. We’ll be posting a daily wrap-up with a ton of photos and additional news from the show floor so be sure to subscribe and check back soon. If there’s anything we missed that you found interesting, send a tweet to @MQDuclos and we’ll make him run across the expo to check it out ;-). Let’s get to it! We’ve broken the product announcements up by manufacturer in alphabetical order. Continue reading “NAB 2016 Preview”

Canon’s New 18-80mm T4.4 Compact Servo Zoom

Yet another bombshell has landed in the NAB 2016 battleground. This time, it’s Canon who has struck with a brand new product in a whole new segment, perhaps only tapped otherwise by Sony – The 18-80mm T4.4 Compact Servo Zoom Lens which features a truly hybrid stills/motion design approach with some interesting cross-breed features.  Continue reading “Canon’s New 18-80mm T4.4 Compact Servo Zoom”

2014, Year of the Servo Lenses

20140411-183725.jpgFujinon started a trend when they took their professional mid-range cinema zooms and slapped on a servo unit borrowed from their Broadcast Division. The result was the very successful 19-90mm Cabrio zoom, followed shortly by the 85-300mm Cabrio and just recently the 14-35mm Cabrio. During NAB 2014, or as I call it, Spring Christmas, Angenieux, Canon, and Zeiss all announced lenses with servo units in various practical applications. Credit where credit is due, Fujinon started it… Continue reading “2014, Year of the Servo Lenses”

NAB 2013 Rolling Update

DSCF7048NAB 2013 is officially underway. Aubrey and I have begun scouring the show floor for interesting new bits of information pertaining to cinematography and more specifically, lenses. I’ll be dividing this post by manufacturer and will continue to update throughout the show. Photo Collection of NAB 2011

Photo Collection of NAB 2011

It’s that time of year once again. Duclos Lenses closes up shop except for those few unlucky employees who stay behind to keep the wheel turning. This year everyone is flying from LA to Vegas… What a waste. I prefer my loyal automobile to get me there in about the same amount of time as those flying fools. I’ll be snapping photos the whole way there and while at the show whenever I find something cool or interesting worth sharing. A virtual photo tour, as it were, for my guests to enjoy. I’ll do my best to utilize my plethora of Apple and Nikon/Canon toys to show as much as I can, as quick as I can. Please feel free to ask questions or request specific photos and I’ll do my best to accommodate. Now onto the photos!

UPDATE: Between WordPress’ irritating interface and the Hilton’s sluggish (at best) wifi, I’ve decided just to upload all to Flickr via my 3G iPad connection. Click the link below for the gallery. Enjoy!

NAB 2011, Here I Come!

NAB 2011, Here I Come!

I’m not sure what to expect this year from NAB. However, it should be exciting. RED has a lot of big announcements that they’ve been teasing on the forums. Sony has a few new cameras up their sleeve as usual. But there aren’t really any big optics announcements to speak of. I’ll just have to go to the show and find them for myself. I have high hopes for something new from Angenieux or Cooke. Zeiss is still rolling with their CP.2 lenses that everyone loves yet nobody can get so I don’t expect much from them. I’ll be sure to swing by all the other vendor booths and check out the new goodies. Hopefully I’ll have a fully functional pre-production Duclos 70-200mm to flaunt while walking the show floor. Regardless of the news, it should be a good time at NAB this year. I’ll be live updating from the show with tons and tons of photos. Keep checking back on April 11th and 12th for news. I’ll start a new post then. See you in Vegas!

Here are some snaps from last years NAB.

So NAB is here once again. That means a nice drive to Vegas from LA and a lot of shoulder rubbing. Everyone always asks if Duclos Lenses will have a booth and its been the same answer for quite a while… We don’t really have enough stuff to warrant a space at NAB. That said, it’s an excellent opportunity to meet new people and see what’s new in the industry. My interests are pretty narrow. I am mainly interested in lenses (for obvious reasons). But i always do my best to checkout new gear and see how the industry is changing.
Over the course of the exhibit, I’ll be taking photos and uploading directly to an album.
Feel free to share the link and provide any feedback and or requests.
